Summary
A brass inlaid tortoiseshell and ormolu mounted 'Boulle' writing desk or bureau plat, French Regence style, circa 1850 The top inlaid with arabesque scrolling designs incorporating two catherine wheels and with an applied leaf and bead cast ormolu edge above two drawers to the shaped frieze flanking a central panel with an applied cast female sun mask. The table raised on cabriole legs headed by satyr masks and terminating on cast sabots modeled as mythical sea creatures.
Provenance
Part of the Windham Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1969 by Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer (1906-1969)
