Summary
A Regency rosewood, burr yew cross banded, brass inlaid and brass mounted center table or breakfast table, English, probably London, circa 1820 The hinged circular top with a thick cross banded edge and brass stringing raised on a triform tapered column with gadrooned lower edge and with brass beaded mounts. The concave triform plinth inlaid at the corners with stylized brass motifs and with further anthemion cast edges terminating on S scroll cast feet with castors. The top is held by a brass catch and hinged mechanism to allow the top to sit vertically for display as well as horizontally for use. The quality of the brass work and the choice of veneers, which are laid on mahogany, are of the finest quality.
