Full description
Percussion pistol, English c1840. Crudely constructed from various military parts possibly as a trade pistol. Plain round iron barrel with integral bolster for nipple, the breech stamped with the proof marks of the Birmingham Proof Company, together with the figure 12. Blade foresight. Muzzle with loop for attaching a ramrod swivel (missing). Percussion nipple damaged. Pitted overall. Retained to the stock by 1 barrel pin. Wooden ramrod (replacement). Barrel length 22.6cm. Calibre 19mm. Wooden full stock (walnut?), crudely carved overall, and with a bag-shaped grip. Brass trigger guard. Some patches of wood filler. Percussion lock (Enfield military pattern), retained to the stock by 1 sidenail. Metal pitted overall. Overall length: 38.5cm.
