Summary
Plaster, Stag at Bay by George Garrard, RA (London 1760 – Brompton 1826). One of two plaster reliefs, painted to resemble bronze. By George Garrard, 1760 to 1826. (30 November 1804). There is a reference to these reliefs in the Dictionary of English Sculptors 1660 to 1851, Rupert Gunnis, P.164. Mostly destroyed in the fire and reconstructed. Fragments of the originals dated 30th November 1804 have survived. Inscribed on front, 'Popes Homer BII L595. G. Garrard fecit Nov. 30 1804'. (NT/UPP/SC/3b is other in pair).
