Summary
A Regency gilt and patinated bronze flying console, circa 1820, with scrolling cornucopiae and snake supports surmounted by a serpentine nero e bianco inlaid marble top. These consoles are thought to have been introduced by the architect Humphry Repton (1752-1818) who undertook some work at Uppark, notably the re-arrangement of the dining room circa 1813 where a set of four comparable bronze and marble consoles were fitted to the walls (NT 137736.1-4).
Provenance
by descent; given to the National Trust in 1954 with the house and some of its contents by Admiral the Hon. Sir Herbert Meade-Fetherstonhaugh.
