Summary
Alabaster, An Alhambra Archway, Spanish School, 19th century. A Spanish polychrome stucco and alabaster relief model (one of four similar) in a glazed giltwood frame with the framer's paper label to the reverse. Slight damage to corners and paper strip which secures wooden back.
Provenance
With Frost and Reed, Bristol 1891; purchased by the National Trust from the estate of the late George Richard Lawley Gibbs, 2nd Baron Wraxall (1928 – 2001) with the assistance of the NHMF, the Art Fund and donations from members and supporters in 2002
Marks and inscriptions
Verso: Label reads FROST AND REED / BRISTOL CLIFTON / CLARE STREET 47 QUEEN'S ROAD, / PICTURE FRAME MAKERS ARTISTS' COLOURMEN & / PRINT SELLERS. PICTURE DEALERS and in the centre is the Royal Coat of Arms logo surmounted by a crown with the words ESTABLISHED / 1808 beneath. Beneath this is printed No. 529 DATE 15/4/91 in pencil. All this is surrounded by a thin printed border with a square at the corners.
