Summary
Fine white muslin chemisette made from five pieces. Probably an example of mid-nineteenth century recycling. Back cut from heavier muslin made to taper from shoulders to waistband. Part of tape tie remains attached to right back waist. Fronts made up of two rectangular pieces of different weights and qualities of muslin, one section on the cross. Appear to have been pieced from odd remnants of fabric. Right front has embroidered border, left front has scalloped edge, same whitework motifs typical of colours and pelerine of 1820-1830. Matching collar with scalloped edge possibly pieced from double pelerine. Fastens at centre front with four odd mother-of-pearl buttons and worked thread loops. Entirely hand-sewn.
