Summary
Tucker for a child made in eleven sections. Ten pieces of fine linen lawn measuring 52mm at the top end flaring to 100mm at the bottom; each section is joined to 75mm wide embroidered insertion. A simple faggoting stitch is used to join the pieces. The embroidery also borders the hem of the garment. Each strip of insertion is hand-embroidered with French knots in a zig-zag design in white thread. The top edge of the sections is finely gathered in to a 22mm wide collar band, which fastens with a Dorset thread button at centre front. The collar is finished by a turn-down frill, gathered into the band and edged with embroidered insertion. Hand-stitched. The button and buttonhole seem too large and out of proportion for a child's garment.
