Summary
Cocktail dress, bodice of underdress made in seven sections; skirt essembled from four pieces underdress is partially boned. Bodice and full skirt made from dark pink acetate rayon the main seams are machine stitched, hem stitched by hand. Overdress of black machine lace mounted on black net over a black net underskirt. The lace appears to have been recycled from a mid-nineteenth century Chantilly mantle, the bodice appears to be overlaid with a different piece of black machine lace. The lace is all hand-stitched onto the net and over broad shoulder straps. The dress fastens on the left hand side with a metal zip fastener (marked 'L') and a metal hook and eye.
