Summary
Dress bodice - Black silk satin, lined with cotton sateen printed in brown and orange stripes. Broad soft pleats across upper part of bodice, gathered into deep waistband. Very short gathered sleeves. Low neckline edged with black net. Full-length oversleeve of black spotted net, ending in flared cuff bound with black satin. Inner waistband of narrow cotton tape, metal hook at centre to secure to skirt. Boned with fourteen whalebones, machine stitched seams, hand finished. Bodice fastens at centre front with nine pairs of hooks and eyes. Two large decorative black faceted glass buttons decorate waistband which fastens with three metal hooks and worked loops.
