Summary
Sampler - Wooden roller mounted with figured silk, black/red shot silk ground with red lace pattern. Strip of canvas, 870mm x 152mm, bound with crimson silk stitched onto figured silk. Corresponding silk piece shaped into a 'V' with crimson silk ribbon ties, is stitched to the opposite end of the canvas. When rolled this acts as a cover for the sampler. Motifs embroidered onto first 235mm of canvas in coloured wools are typical of 'Berlin' wool work designs of the period where applied to reticules etc.
