Summary
Evening dress bodice high waisted, short sleeved bodice with deep peplum. Off-white silk satin cut in nine pieces with low rounded neckline and short gathered sleeves. Trimmed with ruched white silk crepe and borded with hand-made black silk lace. Neckline finished with double row of cotton edging lace (Valenciennes) with narrow ribbon slotted through. Bows of black crepe piped with white satin and edged with gold silk fringe trim sleeves and centre back waist. Bodice fastens at centre front with five glass buttons. Lined with cotton. Boned with whalebone, one each at side seams, two on each fronts near bust darts. Cotton waistband with hook and eye fastening. The bodice is padded below armholes (later?) and has been let out at the side seams.
