Summary
Summer riding habit coat, three quarter length single-breasted cut full over the hips. Single back vent, full length sleeves and single lapel. Khaki/drill fastening with three toning plastic buttons at centre front. Sleeves fastening with two buttons at wrist, button holes worked by hand. Bust darts run to hem to shape fronts; angled breast pocket, jetted pocket. Two large pockets at hips with flaps; two lengths of elastic stitched to facings 250mm up from hem. Buttonhole worked at each end of safety straps.
Provenance
Made for Linda Rhodes-Moorhouse. Mrs Rhodes-Moorhouse was a keen horsewomen and hunted regularly, her father in law's riding outfit is also in the collection. She was the daughter of Mr Mowitt of Rokeby Park from whom the nation acquired Velasquez's Rokeby Venus through the N.A.C.F (National Art Collections Fund). Stocks etc were also given with this donation. Mrs Rhodes-Moorhouse lived at Parnham Park, Dorset.
