Summary
Black satin day dress with heavy bands of black bead and dark grey sequin passementerie trimming. Vest and high neckline in black net and black and white frilling over paler 'Greek Key' base. Bodice has right side extended to fold around left waistline, fastening at back under two long sash ends. Skirt flared with applied horizontally ruched frills halfway down and at hem. Tiny white buttons down centre front of vest, five 'black berry' buttons trim each sleeve. Bodice loosely structured made for large possibly elderly lady. Dress shields in white cotton (interlining of rubber perished and crumbling) 'Snowwyte, Canfield, Trade Mark, Made in USA'. 1850 (circa)
