Summary
Bag - Ivory fine twilled wool, floral motif in tent stitch, multi colour silks and wools. Blue / white silk borders. Metal rings, ivory silk cords and chenille tasels. 'Bag made by Phebe Clark my niece and carried by me on my wedding day. Theophila Ford, Jan 2nd,1877'. NB 1877 is the date that the note was written,not the date of the marriage. nb Theophila Ford was an ancestor of 'Q', Sir Arthur Quiller Couch, and of Bertha Couch the great-great aunt of the donor. Theophila also inherited Susanna Courtenay's dress which went to Q's nranch of the family and via his daughter Foy to the Symondson's who dinated it to Killerton.
