Summary
One piece dress of peacock blue silk. Bodice front fastening with deep V-neck and pleating from shoulder to waist; the sleeve with triple mandorla piecing to give slash effect with rosettes to junctures (several missing), piped edges and shaped cuff; Skirt tucked onto waistband at front and box-pleated at back and with box-pleated frill to braided hem. Bodice lined with glazed silesia, sleeves lined with stiffened muslin, skirt lined in coase book muslin. 1861 (circa)

worn by Mr Coakes' grandmother for her wedding in 1861 (Reputedly of Spitalfields silk) Note - Similar sleeve shown in oil portait of unknown woman, signed 'HW 1863' at Shanbellie House, Scotland.
