Summary
Afternoon dress - Black and red figured silk, floral design (single roses?) bodice boned and close fitting with round neck, coat sleeves, front fastening with nine buttons of moulded amber coloured glass in set with black star; trimmed with black jet-beaded braiding; Skirt box-pleated onto piped waistline, opening left side front with watch pocket, hem bound with black braid. Bodice lined with brown cotton, skirt lined with glazed cotton. Hem width 160 in. Hand sewn. 1860 (circa)
