Summary
Evening dress bodice - Fine cream / white silk gauze, soie de mousselaine woven in bright yellow silk in floral pattern at hem and bodice back, and leaf pattern on sleeves, bodice front and skirt. Width of silk; 32 1/4 in. Distance between leaf designs 3 1/4 in. This leaf design is very similar to that on p.119 of N.Bradfield's 'Costume in Detail', but the distance is 6 in Bodice has a drawstring at high waistline, two bust darts either side, and wrap over front, there being no back closing, sleeves are short and slightly puffed. Bodice has been later lined in white cotton, which must be removed. (Hastily done, as if for fancy dress) This dress would have been worn with a cream silk underdress see P.119 Nancy Bradfields 'Costume in Detail' Dating; After 1810 'because no train, padded hem would be usual after 1822. 1800 - 1830 gauze popular over silk. 1810 - 1822 (circa)
