Summary
Girl's dress aged 2 - 4, half mourning. Lilac, grey and white gingham wool / cotton alpaca with narrow black velvet ribbon and lace trimming. Bodice with high round neckline piped in mauve silk, lace edged. Three box pleats from neckline to waistline at bodice front, one either side of central back opening, each decorated with a centrally placed length of velvet ribbon. Jet buttons at centre back closing. Waistband trimmed with ribbon top and bottom. Long tight sleeve piped at armhole with two bands of ribbon at cuff. Skirt not very full, gathered to waistband. The bodice and sleeves lined in cotton. Skirt is unlined except for 2 in band at hem. 1860 (circa)
