Summary
Crimson wool / silk twill girl's dress with black velvet trimming (Lady's Newspaper 1850 gives these two materials and colours as being very fashionable for children in 1850). Bodice very low neckline, trimmed with machine valenciennes, piped and with velvet with sepentine edge. Vertically pleated tucks at back and front of bodice from neckline to waistline. Centre back opening. Sleeve; short puffed sleeve, trimmed with lace and velvet. Skirt; black velvet piping at waistline (worn). Skirt box pleated to waistband, ganged on at centre back. Serpentine black velvet band at hem. Lining; dress lined throughout in white cotton. 1850 - 1860 (circa)
