Summary
Rectangular needlework box covered in red saffron leather (goat / sheepskin tanned with sumach and dyed). Brass lion handled, silver plaque monogrammed HGL. Lid lined with print, the woodman, engraved on satin by Frances Edgington (1775 - 1823). Tray and box lining of red paper with metal fillet. Contents of needlework box as follows; 8 ivory cotton reel holders, 4 ivory cotton barrels, 2 ivory pots, one containing wax, the other containing ivory thimble and stand, fretted ivory measure, silver-plated thimble, 3 ivory thread winders (shuttle-type), leather needlebook, 2 ivory tatting shuttles, joined pair of bodkins for ribbon work, red stained bone bobbin (for netting), square ivory emery pad, ivory bodkin case, bobbin (netting?) and stiletto, steel scissors and tweezers, ivory netting clamp. 1800 (circa)
