Summary
A kingwood, tulipwood and ormolu mural cabinet, by Town & Emanuel (fl. 1830-49) of 103, New Bond Street, London, circa 1835. Of two shaped, open shelves before a mirrored back, above a cupboard enclosed by a pair of quarter-veneered doors, each mounted with a porcelain lozenge painted with cherubs within a border of ormolu.
Full description
Town & Emanuel of 103, New Bond Street, London, were furniture-makers and suppliers. The firm was founded in 1830 by artist Charles Town and curiosity dealer Emanuel Emanuel. There stock-in-trade sale of 1849 included objects from well-known collections like Wanstead, Fonthill and Stowe. After the 1849 sale of stock Josiah Thoms, previously an assistant at Town & Emanuel, and William Luscombe, took over the New Bond Street premises and established Toms & Luscombe.
