Summary
Watercolour and pencil heightened with white on paper, The Conference by Herman Frederik Carel ten Kate (The Hague 1822 – The Hague 1891), signed lower left by Herman Frederick Carol Ten Kate ft. Single cream mount with gilt edging and single gilt ink line. HERMAN TEN KATE centre bottom of ornate gilt frame. Bottom, centre of reverse a buff coloured paper label with black script printing Goupil and Comp.y / (of Paris) / Publishers and Dealers in / Foreign Pictures, Engravings / and other / Works of Art / London, / 25 Bedford St, Strand, WC. / . On left edge of frame in thick black pencil 1/3" + 61 then French writing (difficult to interpret). Along bottom edge, illegible writing and embossed stamp DEPO8. On right side of frame a circular stamp mark, also in French. E. CARPENTIER FILS. Hardboard backing intact but paper surround torn.
