Summary
One of two epaulettes of an officer in the Royal Fusiliers. Made from gilt scales (8) with one button 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense' surmounted by a crown with a rose in the centre and figure '7' (7th Regiment of the Line). Same emblem on the base of the epaulettes, partly in silver with the letters 'R' and 'F' on either side. They are lined with yellow silk and trimmed with gold bullion fringes in a double row. The crown and star - colonel; crown - lieutenant colonel; star - major; captains and below - no badge of rank. Prior to 1829 captains and below wore one epaulette. From 1830 with gold lace for infantry, silver lace for militia. Epaulettes discontinued during the Crimean War. (uniform)
