Summary
Coat; Uniform coatee of Deputy Lieutenant of Gloucestershire made from signal red/Post Office red doeskin with an Oxford blue collar and cuffs and stone white turnback. It is lined with ecru lightweight wool tabby body, buff cotton sleeves, black silk twill cuffs and collar and stone white doeskin tails. There is a stand collar (45 mm 2 in). It is double breasted, square cut in with waist seams, side pieces, tails with square ends and turn backs. There is a centre back vent with stitched pleat either side. There is a vertical pocket inside the lining of the left tail. The lining of the body is machine quilted across the breast and across part of the back. The sleeves have a deep false cuff (80 mm 3.125 in). it fastens with 2 flat brass hooks and eyes on collar and buttons and buttonholes down centre front. 6 stitched eyelet holes on each shoulder for epaulettes. Embroidery on cuffs and collar in silver plate, purl and wire with sequins. The design is of acorns and oak leaves- part on collar and on cuffs not completely encircling. A plain piece of fabric has been let in. Silver embroidery on base of tail holding turn backs in place - design of four leaves sewn onto dark blue fabric appliqued onto garment. Silver coloured gilt buttons slightly domed with omega shanks. Backmark 'Jennens and Co, London' contained in circle surmounted by 3 feathers (post 1860). front of queen's crown inside a wreath of laurel leaves. 9 down each front, 1 either side of the centre back vent.
