Summary
Military jacket - French military officers jacket from Hussars. Made from RAF blue-grey wool with Kenya red sleeve facings. Lined with cotton throughout except for the lower sleeves which are lined with white/steel blue striped glazed cotton. There is leather facing along the base of the jacket. There is a stand collar (38 mm 1.5 in). It is double breasted with the fronts heavily padded. The base of the front rises towards the side seams showing a pronounced 'pointe a la hussar'. The base of the back curves down to a point at the centre back rising towards the centre seams. The sleeves have a false cuff. There are additional fastenings with hooks and eyes. The jacket is trimmed with white lace on sleeves, cuff neck and on the back. Wide thick Russia braid frogging trims the fronts, narrow Russia braid decorates the back. There are stitch marks on the cuff where lace/gold? is missing. '54195248 70' is handwritten across centre back, 'C 289' on left front, a crown and 'Ch ?? G' on right front in a rectangle. Possibly for a Non-commissioned Officer or Other Ranks rather than an Officer - poor quality fabric and trimmings of cotton rather than gold. (uniform)
