Summary
One of two uniform epauettes - Part of a coatee and epaulettes of the Coldstream Guards, other ranks. Made from red wool with blue facings to collar and cuffs and cream turn backs, lined with cream wool to the body and skirts and cotton sleeves. It is decorated with square loops on cuffs and tails with star shaped lace on collar and tails. It fastens with pewter buttons 'Gilpin and Co, London' decorated with a 8 pointed star with a central cross encircled with 'Honi soit qui mal y pence'. The epaulettes and of white woven cotton. The coatee is marked '?BEEr T Costerd S Coldm Guards ?? 18--' T Costerd is believed to have died during the Crimean War 1854-1856. (uniform)
