Summary
Military coat - A Royal Chelsea Infirmary coat made from red Guardsman's wool with Oxford blue wool cuffs and collar. It has a lining of indigo wool twill and the pockets and sleeves are lined in glazed linen. a 90 mm (3.5 in) high stand collar with one small button, it has a centre-front opening with 9 buttons down front stitched in place by stitched lengths of tapes, (23 large, 1 small - all gilt by Nutting of London. Marked with King's crown and R.I.C). The back of the coat has sloping shoulder seams and a centre-back seam plus 2 curving back seams- no side seams with 2 buttons above back pleats and 2 at hem of pleats. There is a tack-over centre-back vent with 1 stitched pleat either side. The sleeves with 134 mm (5.25 in) deep cuffs with 2 buttons. Pockets with shaped flaps and 3 buttons on each and with 3 vertical false buttonholes. Long buttonholes down centre-front and 1 on collar. Identified by National Army Museum. (male)
