Summary
Wedding dress bodice - Made from wool with a woven tartan the check on a cream background in browns, greens, lilac and yellow. The bodice is lined with cotton it has a round neck and pagoda sleeves flounced and puffed. The bodice is fitted and waist length, front opening. The back comes to a slight point and has a separate centre panel pleated onto the waist band with 7 pairs of knife pleats facing centre. It is partly machined and partly hand stitched. It fastens with 14 brass hooks and stitched eyelets down front and one brass hook and brass eye at waist. Wade Catalogue number G.31 "Bodice, check pattern with large bell sleeves. Part of wedding dress. Mrs Dye of Yarmouth. May 1859" A gift from M. Dye.
