Summary
Sundial, designed by Thomas Hardy, attached to the front of the east tower at Max Gate. White timber dial plate with wrought iron gnomon, black hour lines, Roman numeral hours and inscription, '1885.T.H.1928./QVID.DE.NOCTE?' (What of the Night?). The design was sent to Lot and Walne, iron-founders in Fordington near Dorchester, but erected after his death.
