Summary
One of two hand screens - Made from fine cotton canvas hand embroidered with silk thread with an embossed paper surround on the front and a red glazed paper backing embossed with a leaf pattern. The handle is of carved varnished wood. The embroidery is framed by two layers of paper, the central portion (missing on one) held by pins. The wooden handle is slit at the top and the paper frame slips inside and held in place by metal rivets. The designs are not the same and consist of 2 flower arrangements. (female)
