Summary
Livery hat - Made from black silk plush and lined with silk. It has a padded label 'Thomas Townend, London, 16 and 18 Lime Street and 110 Oxford Street'. It is cocked with curved front and back flaps. The brim is edged with silver lace ending with silver tassels on both points. It has a loop of silver lace on the front flap with a crested silver button at the base of the loop (crest of dragon's head, erased, sa, scaled, ducally gorged and chained, or and a ducal crown, with motto 'Animo et Fide' (with resolution and fidelity); the crest of the Earl of Guilford.
