Summary
Coat; Tailcoat made from blue napped wool with self facings and black silk twill lining to the back and the sleeves and brown glazed cotton lining to the tails. It is decorated with blue and yellow silk embroidery in satin and stem stitch and French knots in a design of oak leaves and acorns and vine leaves and acorns. It fastens with embroidered buttons and hooks and eyes. It has been altered at hip level and on lower part of the sleeves inside the cuffs. There is a label on the centre back lining. The front is virtually undecipherable on the reverse are the initials 'G U V (?) Bremen, a key - all contained in a circle. D 56.' (male) Wade Catalogue number A.16 "Coat. Dark blue cloth embroidered with silks, pale blue and white, oak-leaf design. Similar to coat above in better condition. Marked.. Sketch of marking. C.1825." Bought from Mrs Solomon for £2.10.0
