Summary
Court coat with wig bag - Part of a court suit made from plum napped wool and lined with cream twilled silk. It fastens with cut steel buttons.The breeches have black ribbed silk facings, brown twill cotton pockets, black glazed cotton twill inside the front opening. The inside of the kneeband is faced with red plush. They have a large fall with 2 sloping pockets in the front and a fob pocket , no waistband and 2 buttons in front for braces. There are fastenings at the kneeband. (male) (coat with wig bag and breeches) Wade Catalogue number 28 "Coat Very fine purple brown cloth. Lined with white silk. Black silk wig pad with satin rosette. Beautiful cut steel buttons (these were introduced in the early 70's) c.1775" Bought from Mrs Solomon for £4.0.0
