Summary
One of two Chinese military rank badges made from black satin and lined with blue silk. They are embroidered with gold and silver thread couched with a variety of coloured threads showing ch'i-lin (lion dog) in metal thread and satin stitch in purple thread with applied sea and mountains with heavycloud filing and a Thunder line border. The ch'i-lin was worn by military officials of the first rank. Ch'ing dynasty. (male)
