Summary
Wrapper; Abayah - An abayah (wrapper) from the Middle East made from two pieces of handwoven handspun heavy fabric. One piece is striped weft faced weave and one weft patterned (tapestry) woven en disposition with silver added. There is a design of stylised flowers (tulips) on the back. There is a cotton warp and wool weft. The fabric from the sleeves is woven separately. There is a thin red and black stripe. The pattern is woven with green, black and yellow mixed with silver. The seams are overstitched with floss silk (or goat's hair) in herringbone stitch. (male)
