Summary
Wrapper; Abayah - An abayah (wrapper) from the Middle East made from 2 pieces of handwoven handspun fabric with fine stripes of alternating fibres (possibly wool and goat's hair) giving an open weve. The weave is wider and the warp of finer spinning. It is white with stripes of indigo blue with a decoration in pink, gold, green and indigo floss silk. It is trimmed with 2 embroidered triangles either side of the front neck opening in Cretan stitch. The seams at the shoulder are covered in broad chain stitch to give a plaited braid effect in pink silk with 2 areas including yellow to make chevron pattern. The eges are herringboned and turned under. (male)
