Summary
Cape; Shoulder cape - Woman's shoulder cape dating from c1900. Fabric - Blue/brown shot silk giving very irridescent sheen. Lining - Lined with same fabric. Interlined stiffened black muslin. Collar interlined thick, sized canvas. Cut - Cut in flat piece, almost a circle. Deep stand collar. Trimmings - Radiating lines of gold and blue sequin and bead braid. Deep pleated frill of self-fabric on outer edge - several layers on collar. 3 panels (at sides and back) of double row of frills. Black striped silk ribbon box pleated down front edge and along top of pleated frilling. Thick, black satin ribbon bow either side of front neck - 1 at centre-back neck with 3 tails, 1 sewn at the end. Fastenings - 4 painted hooks centre-front with 3 metal eyes and 1 worked loop.
