Summary
Dress - A woman's muslin dress dating from 1825-1830. Fabric - White muslin with stripes of thick weft threads. Roller printed with stripes of red 'seaweed' and blue 'fern' design. Lining _ Bodice and sleeves white cotton mull. Cut - Waistline slightly high. 'Boat' neckline. Bodice front cut full in one piece, gathered at neck and towards centre at waist. Centre-back opening extending into skirt. Back bodice gathered as front but less full. Narrow band round neck covering the gathers. Set-in waistband. Gigot sleeves with fastened cuff. Skirt has slightly flared side seams and has stroked gathers all round, closer at the back. Hem heavily decorated with 2 bias-cut self-frills and wide ruched band. Right-hand pocket slit. Piped seams. Neatly made. Fastenings - Tape ties inside waist. 3 flattened copper hooks and worked bars at top of centre-back opening, also 2 on each cuff. 2 large brass hooks and eyes on waist.
