Summary
Dress - An early 19th century (1812-1815) dress of very fine cream cotton, with all over spot design of flower and leaf brocaded in tartan green. Deep border at hem - very finely woven design of loose bunch of flowers and naturalistic rose and rosebud. Scalloped edging line in lace design. Border worked in tartan green and calret red. Borders on bodice of fabric woven with scalloped 'lace' design matching the dress fabric, to be cut into strips (woven en disposition). Lining - Unlined. Cut - Waistline under bust. Back fastening. Wrap front to bodice. Bodice back and front gathered at waist and at shoulder onto a long band which extends over the natural shoulder. Long, loose fitting - sleeves with slight fullness at head. Green silk ribbon drawstring at wrist. Skirt side seams slightly flared. Short centre-back opening from waist. Skirt falls smoothly in front, gathered at back waist. Fastenings - Dorset button at back neck. Tape ties at back waist. Ribbon drawstring at wrist. Cross reference Nancy Bradfield 'Costume in Detail' p116. (female)
