Summary
Dress - An early 19th century dress (c.1810), of sprigged muslin and cotton. Lining - Bodice and part of sleeves white cotton. Cut - High waisted. Apron front bodice joined to skirt. Pinned at shoulder to form square neckline. Bodice has under-pieces of white cotton. Long narrow sleeves, dipped over the hand, slightly gathered at top over short puffed cotton under-sleeve. Full-length skirt, trained smooth at front, gathered at back. 2 frills of self-fabric above hem.Trimmings - Worked before making up either spot design of leaves and stems tamboured in brown and green silk thread. Narrow tucks down centre back of bodice front in diamond arrangement, giving shaping for bust. Fastenings - Linen tape ties attached to back part of skirt at waistline to tie under bust before front bodice is pinned up. Fabric ties from waist.
