Summary
Garment; Jockey's silks of primrose yellow silk with sapphire silk sleeves and lined with cream cotton. The arms are shortened at the cuffs and it is taken in centre back. Said to have belonged to Mr Brook an Irish amateur jockey - 6 foot tall who died 1852. In September 1944 Mr Wade bought 15 items from Reg Rowland, Wellesley House, Colchester, Essex. He was selling them on behalf of Mrs Irwin, nee Brook SNO.TC.2204.1,2204.2,2204.3,2204.4. The garments belonged to Mr Brook described in Mr Rowland's letter as 'the handsome Irishman who rode as a gentleman in steeplechases'. The silks SNO.TC.377/381 appear to have been those registered to Mr E J Irwin Rathbridge Manor, The Curragh from 1843-1857, and Carrunure, Lecarron, Co. Rosscommon from 1858 - 1860.It would appear that the hunting jacket SNO.TC.694 and breeches SNO.TC.695 and hunting cap SNO.TC.1237 and boots SNO.TC.163 also belonged to Mr Irwin as the Louth Hunt have no record of Mr Brook. In Mr Connolly's letter 'Mr Brooks widow married a Mr Irwin'. Mr Rowland states Mr Irlham and Mr Irwin both married Miss Brook in series. Other items bought from Mr Rowland - SNO.TC.152/385/619/624/651/691/1239/1585. (male)
