Summary
Coat - Made from olive wool coloured silk sateen with a lining of khaki cotton. Full length cut with slightly falared side seams; wrapover front; sleeves set in, square, wide, straight. 2 pocket slits; side seams slit at hem for 3 in/7.7 cm. Decorated with corded quilting overall. Design of rows of zigzags enclosed a quatrefoil shape; borders of diagonal and cross lines. Very similar coats are in the Embroiderers' Guild collection. Very similar garment in Indianapolis Muserum of Art, No. 33.796 - the border has similar elements in the design. 'An important person must have owned this extraordinarily fine quilted coat.
