Summary
Granny Spencer's letter weight in the form of a cast silver donkey with gold pannier baskets on a stone base. In his notebook ‘Days far Away’ (SNO.MISC.958) Charles Wade describes his Granny Spencer’s house (Katherine Blanche Bulwer) and includes the following reference alongside a coloured sketch. 'This little ‘silver’ donkey with panniers, was the letter weight in the old Secretaire – now in ‘ADMIRAL’ SNOWSHILL MANOR'. (page 15) The secretaire referred to is Granny's Cabinet, now on display in Zenith (1331891).
