Summary
Hollow tortoiseshell made into a case with a thin tortoiseshell lid, on a cord. Wooden gourd shaped toggle - Netsuke, at the end of the cord and a sliding ivory toggle part way along. Shell lined with a black substance, possibly clay, which also blocks the end of the shell. In notebook no.6, page 9 (1340945.6) Charles Wade refers to: 'The Blue Room 17. Tortoise Shell made into a case with ivory bead and gourd shape toggle.' Includes sketch with dimensions.
