Summary
Model tumbril - Wooden toy tumbril - a two-wheeled cart - painted light blue, lined with canary yellow, red inside and red wheels. Underside not painted; written in pencil ‘+!’. Very little paint left on shafts. Constructed with nails and screws. Hook projecting from front. (A tumbril is an open cart that tips to empty its load. This type of cart was used to convey condemned persons to their execution, especially to the guillotine during the French Revolution. Also used to carry tools and ammunition, and would have been covered. This type of cart was also used for carrying dung.) In notebook no.5, page 33 (1340945.5) Charles Wade refers to: 'Seventh Heaven no.28 Toy Tumbril painted light blue lined with canary yellow, red inside, red wheels' Includes sketch with dimension 9" length.
