Summary
Bicycle; Velocipede with black iron frame lined with grey. Reddish brown painted wheels and wooden saddle. Wooden pedals (one missing wooden cover) and leather brake strap. The coasting irons are formed into a bird 'figure head'. From Worcester. In notebook no.5, page 101 (1340945.5) Charles Wade refers to: 'Large Garret Ten specimens with wooden wheels no.2 With red wheels. The coasting irons are formed into a bird "figure head" fr Worcester'. Includes sketch of said figure head. (Quoting Charles Paget Wade) - 'From a scrap iron yard by the river at Worcester came a fine example of a smoke jack from an old kitchen chimney. Here too was found a fine old 'boneshaker' bicycle with flying bird shaped leg rests'. Bought from William Smith, Newport Street, Worcester, 29th March 1932. CPW item number 66.2 (Large Garret).
