Summary
Pedal vehicle - Four wheeled pedal operated conveyance, constructed mostly of iron, with detachable leather covered box cushion on padded seat. Turned beechwood handle on steering tiller. Fixed wooden foot pedals. In notebook no.5, page 96 (1340945.5) Charles Wade refers to: 'iii Velocipede wooden wheels and iron frame. An extra link is attached to the fore carriage and treadles, giving a less tiring circular movement. The rider's feet are held by straps to cogs on the treadles. Painted dark green with cushioned seat. Fr Warwickshire.' Sketch with date 1850 follows.
