Summary
Pedal vehicle - Four wheeled pedal operated conveyance, unpainted wood. Has an extra crank and hand lever to get the axle over top centre to the foot boards. Wooden seat with turned back and flat wooden arm rests, Hub split on near side fore wheel. Steering lever to left pulls one side of centre pivoted front axle. Tray in front. Wheels show traces of paint, including yellow lining. Buttoned cushion on seat. In notebook no.5, page 96 (1340945.5) Charles Wade refers to: 'Large Garret item no.60 ii Velocipede: An elaborate machine. Coach-built of good workmanship, made of ash. Complicated steering gear by means of levers, with extension rods. There is "self-starter". Fr Suffolk'. Sketch alongside with date 1845.

CPW item 60 - bought in Suffolk. Given to the National Trust with Snowshill Manor in 1951 by Charles Paget Wade.
