Summary
Medicine chest, early 19th century. Two mahogany boxes with two brass hinges to close together. Brass handle on an inlaid brass plate on the top of each section. Brass lock plate on front, keyhole on right of it (some attachment pins missing) to hold sections together. Forward sliding panel on outside of each section, release by a spring mechanism actuated by removing internal sliding panels. Each panel has a circular indent in its centre, and opens to reveals four baize lined vertical compartments for bottles. Interior of each section has a forward sliding panel at the top which opens to reveal five baize lined compartments for smaller bottles. Below, a series of drawers or differing sizes, but made to look like a series of small drawers of the same size, with brass ring pulls. Exterior is polished, but shows many scratches and other evidence of use.
